[LPGa Executive Committee] Radical Caucus Resolution Proposal

We need to consider the balance that we wish to strike between ideology and
pragmatism. I can tell you from some of the phone calls that I have made
over the past couple weeks that the idea of completely open borders is
turning some people off of the LP. According to one fellow, "I will
continue voting for Libertarian candidates until it looks like they are
actually going to win. I just cannot get behind all of this open borders
nonsense." That's not saying that I am opposed to taking an ideological
approach, simply that we need to be aware that doing so will alienate
people.
I long ago realized that my personal ideals of voluntarism and open borders
were unlikely to ever happen in my lifetime and the most good that I could
do would be a more Fabian approach. People do not tend to jump from one
position to a radically different one, rather they slide in that direction.
That is what led me to loosen my ancap tendencies and become involved with
the LP. If we, as a state organization rather than a national one, were to
address this from a perspective that is within the realm of our control, it
may be more productive. Perhaps we should focus on the impact that these
policies have in our state and condemn them. For example, the violation
that ICE raids and REAL ID impose on our civil liberties. Also, we should
address the conditions under which some of these human beings are being
held. The Stewart County Detention Center (within the scope of the LPCV) is
where "illegals" are being held in this area. The conditions are abysmal
from what I have been told. A very practical thing that we could do would
be to demand that they allow charitable donations of humanitarian supplies
to be given to detainees.
