This was from a Region 1 Member: If you create a Candidate Support Committee, one of the functions it could perform would be to collect significant news stories and assemble them into some sort of briefing book by topic - Health Care, Foreign Policy, Economics, etc. It could be used by all Federal candidates - president and congress. It would focus on current events and collect articles from across the political spectrum. It would NOT include libertarian solutions. The purpose would be to make sure our candidates are informed about the reality of current issues. Hi Ralph, Thank you for writing to members of the Libertarian National Committee. Having a website for people to sign their names quitting the 2-party cartel could be a good idea. In China, something called the Tuidang Movement ( tuidang means "renounce the party") has been quite successful in getting people to withdraw their support for the ruling Communist Party, reportedly attracting 200 million resignations so far (see e.g. http://www.theepochtimes.com/n3/1416965-workers-in-a-chinese-factory-collec…) While your willingness to donate the website RINOSMustPay.com to the party is appreciated however, the name suggests that we don't want people to be "Republicans In Name Only", when in fact we don't want them to be Republicans (or Democrats) at all – we want them to be Libertarians! Therefore that particular site name doesn't seem to me like a good fit for an official LP message. I also wouldn't want to make the Republican Party the sole or main focus of such an effort by the Libertarian Party. We already have a historical imbalance of appealing more to people on the political right than to people on the political left, and given what looks like the current implosion of the GOP, this is more of a concern now than ever. In order to keep the LP sustainably pro-freedom and minimize the danger of slowly gravitating to the right and being taken over by people who are more conservative than libertarian, it's essential that any new LP campaigns reach out at least as much to liberals as to conservatives. So while I can't speak for my colleagues, I would be more interested in an idea like this if it were reconfigured to reach out to liberals at least as much as to conservatives, and avoided wording that suggests we think people not being Republican enough (or Democrat enough) is the problem. If you have never created political television ads that have been run on television, then you are not the right person for this job, but you might know someone who is. It cannot show a picture of Gary Johnson or any current candidate for office (former candidates are okay). It cannot mention any specific candidate. It cannot mention any website. It should not mention the date--I'd like to use these next year too. This should be generic enough that anyone can use it anywhere in the U.S. provided they download it, send it to the TV station, and get their own proper disclosure statement added." You can come up with your own script. But here is a sample script (which I created in under 5 minutes--feel free to make a better one, but remember, it's a 15 second TV commercial): Sample script 1: Voice 1: I'm fed up with Republicans and Democrats! I'm voting Libertarian. Voice 2: I'm voting Libertarian. Voice 3: I'm voting Libertarian. Voice 4: I'm voting Libertarian. [You need to leave space for the disclosure statement at the end, that will be added by the cable operator, and will be along the lines of "Political ad paid for by the Libertarian Party of ___ County." Sample script 2: Voice 1: "It's time for a change! I'm voting Libertarian. Voice 2: I'm voting Libertarian. Voice 3: I'm voting Libertarian. Voice 4: I'm voting Libertarian. If I like your ad, I may ask you to make a 30 second version as well, and something for radio. But please, keep in mind, I have no use for a 90 second youtube ad, or something that is not for actual television. discussion on variant of UMP

I have had a few members bring up the UMP (Unified Membership Program) to me over the past few months. A few would like to see something like that re-instituted. I don't want to waste time here with half-baked proposals but I am planning on getting an informal group of members together to discuss in November. draft minutes of 9/25/16 LNC meeting

Attached are the first draft minutes from the September 25 LNC electronic meeting. Please note that comments from the LNC on the minutes are due by October 11. On the first budget amendment motion, I'm pretty sure I voted yes, but it was not documented in my raw notes. Taking votes in Adobe Connect is different from in a meeting, and my name as the host is segregated from the other names in the participant list. So I'm not sure if I was so focused on recording the vote that I forgot to set my own voting status, or if maybe I just forgot to look above the participant list to see my own vote. Oh, well. It doesn't impact the outcome, so it's not worth too much angst. -Alicia
