[LPIL - Board of Directors] March BoD Meeting

All,
I'm spoken to several people over the past 48 hours about my proposed
motion to appoint Jim Humay to a vacant position of Deputy Director, a
role that has been long vacant in both of my tenures as Political Director.
I appreciate the response, whether in support, in concern or in outright
indifference. It's not a secret that my incessant rants about a certain
faction of the party have gotten me in trouble with this board in my
last tenure, and this was an attempt to rebuild bridges that I burnt
down in the wake of my sudden departure the last time around.
The Libertarian Party of Illinois is one of the sanest state affiliates
in the country without resorting to nonsensical edgelord messaging. I
pride my division, as much as any other director in this party, that
factional malarkey has no place in this party. When you're a divisional
leader or a divisional worker, we have two major primary objectives: 1)
To represent the best interests of the Libertarian Party of Illinois,
its members, and financial backers and 2) To elect Libertarians to
office in the State of Illinois with the same message that has prevailed
since 1971 which, despite the national platform, still states that
bigotry is irrational and repugnant and that we respect ALL individual
and fiscal freedoms, including the ones that were wiped out from the
National platform.
I've been alerted to some events that unfolded at a recent Libertarian
Party of Chicago meeting that has now proven that Jim would rather want
what's best for the Illinois and National chapters of the Libertarian
Party Mises Caucus than the Libertarian Party of Chicago, Cook County
Libertarian Central Committee, and most importantly, the Libertarian
Party of Illinois.
I want people to serve in my division that can put all factionalism
aside and put the Libertarian Party of Illinois first on their mind, not
blind loyalties and kow-towing to irrelevant caucuses and factions.
Yes, I'm aware that Jim has a political resume that would benefit this
division, but I cannot, in good faith, continue to keep this motion on
the board when my potential candidate now has a reputation of putting
caucus before party, which clearly isn't flying with some members on the
board and it certainly won't fly with me.
I hereby withdraw my motion as of 10:38 a.m. CDT on Saturday, March 18,
2023.
Respectfully,
*Jake Leonard*
