Rules Proposal - Significantly reduce documents

As will likely come as no surprise to some, I am bringing forth a proposal focused on significantly reducing the size of our governing documents. Specifically, merging everything back into one document. We survived without multiple documents just fine for decades. Basically no one has read all of the rules as they exist today because they're too long and specifics are scattered into multiple documents. Current Constitution: 5,483 words Current Bylaws: 3,851 words Current Operating Rules: 8,832 words TOTAL Current rules: 18,166 words My proposal would reduce the Constitution (and thus all the rules) to a combined 8,251 words. That's a 54.6% reduction in words. Rules Comm Meeting reminder today - 6:30PM ET / 5:30PM CT

I believe we have a meeting today at 6:30PM. The agenda, as I recall we agreed, is to approve the report to be given by this committee to the convention body. I have prepared and previously sent out links to those items which we have passed. I also prepared a forward and a copy of our meeting minutes. Given the size of Proposal 1, it does not make sense to do the three-column format with that proposal. Proposals 2 and 3 could be done in the 3-column format, but for consistency's sake it may make more sense to just have everything be the same. Rules Committee Proposals 1, 2, and 3

I have created the proposals in Red Line. I would like to ask that they be reviewed now. For Proposal 1, I made sure that all of the Global changes were made (I found a couple that weren't) and fixed punctuation in a few places. I added an introductory paragraph explaining that this is all the stuff that passed unanimously after deliberation. For Proposal 2, there was nothing special here. It's just what it is. For Proposal 3, I attempted to put the arguments made for each proposal into the rationale. I ordered them by support, so what was Alternative B is being presented as Alternative 1, and what was Alternative A is being presented as Alternative 2. As the primary person arguing in favor of what is now Alternative 1, I'd like to ask Mr. Wiest to verify that I have correctly summarized his argument in favor of the alternative itself. (We will surely have some further debate on the floor about this, and that's okay.) Also we forgot to approve minutes at the 12/4 and 1/4 meetings. So we have 3 sets of minutes to approve at our final meeting (Quick agenda items for that meeting are in the minutes, pending approval, so we don't forget). Just a friendly reminder that 1/4 isn't that far away. There are 10 proposals queued up for deliberation at the 1/4 meeting.
