Radical Caucus Resolution Proposal
Hey Team, I recently had a member of the Radical Caucus in Georgia reach out to me with a proposal for a resolution. I think we should discuss it before any kind of vote. Once someone feels strongly enough that we are ready to vote, we'll need a motion and a second.
"WHEREAS the Libertarian Party of Georgia condemns massive roundups by the federal government of Hispanic-Americans and others in a hunt for foreign nationals not possessing required government documents, and;
WHEREAS those suspected of being undocumented foreign nationals are denied the fundamental freedom to labor and to move about un-molested, and;
WHEREAS the Libertarian Party opposes welfare payments to foreign nationals just as we oppose welfare payments to all other persons;
THEREFORE, BE IT NOW RESOLVED THAT the Libertarian Party of Georgia calls for the lifting of all restrictions on immigration and for full amnesty for currently undocumented foreign nationals;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT we support the abolition of the Border Patrol and of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
-- In Liberty, Ryan Graham Chair, Libertarian Party of Georgia
unless this includes removing all government welfare programs and birthright citizenship for children of foreign nationals. utterly worthless and could be detrimental. On Fri, Aug 2, 2019 at 3:42 PM Ryan Graham via Lpgaexcomm < lpgaexcomm@lists.lpgeorgia.com> wrote:

Is there an edit we can make to better reflect what you're trying to say here? What does "more" mean? Theoretically, "more" could encapsulate what is stated in the resolution. --- In Liberty, Ryan Graham Chair, Libertarian Party of Georgia On 2019-08-03 09:46, ab--- via Lpgaexcomm wrote:

We need to consider the balance that we wish to strike between ideology and pragmatism. I can tell you from some of the phone calls that I have made over the past couple weeks that the idea of completely open borders is turning some people off of the LP. According to one fellow, "I will continue voting for Libertarian candidates until it looks like they are actually going to win. I just cannot get behind all of this open borders nonsense." That's not saying that I am opposed to taking an ideological approach, simply that we need to be aware that doing so will alienate people. I long ago realized that my personal ideals of voluntarism and open borders were unlikely to ever happen in my lifetime and the most good that I could do would be a more Fabian approach. People do not tend to jump from one position to a radically different one, rather they slide in that direction. That is what led me to loosen my ancap tendencies and become involved with the LP. If we, as a state organization rather than a national one, were to address this from a perspective that is within the realm of our control, it may be more productive. Perhaps we should focus on the impact that these policies have in our state and condemn them. For example, the violation that ICE raids and REAL ID impose on our civil liberties. Also, we should address the conditions under which some of these human beings are being held. The Stewart County Detention Center (within the scope of the LPCV) is where "illegals" are being held in this area. The conditions are abysmal from what I have been told. A very practical thing that we could do would be to demand that they allow charitable donations of humanitarian supplies to be given to detainees. I don't think more could encapsulate The statutory immigration figures have been frozen - for decades - by category; they haven't kept pace with world or USA population growth I think there should be a one-time adjustment and then annual adjustments thereafter for population growth Outside the lottery, there are virtually no openings for lower income, poor people Any and all laws should be enforced; otherwise, they shouldn't be laws On 8/5/2019 11:35 AM, Ryan Graham wrote:

To be fair, the resolution does include removing all government welfare programs as a premise. And it's not worthless given it does actually reflect the LP platform. It's not detrimental to communicate the ideas that we, as an organization, believe in. Is the ExComm just not very interested in moving on this? Not hearing a ton of feedback except the Nays. Had some positive feedback in the Slack channel. --- In Liberty, Ryan Graham Chair, Libertarian Party of Georgia On 2019-08-02 16:46, Jay Guidry wrote:

Just my opinion. I think we need to recognize that we need independent and moderate voters to move toward our philosophy in order for the Libertarian Party and our agenda to gain traction. Publishing this resolution could adversely affect that goal. My reasoning is, while we agree on opposing welfare payments to foreign nationals, we are resolving to lift all restrictions on immigration prior to finalizing the removal of welfare payments. Lifting all restrictions would cause a risk that criminals and child sex traffickers’ would have unfettered access to anywhere. These folks are not libertarians and won’t care that they are impeding on the rights of others. And they do exist. No one really knows the numbers, but it is a concern regarding immigration policies. I do not think this kind of social positioning would endear us to those we are trying to win over. We may gain the support of the Radical Caucus, that will not necessarily translate to the Libertarian Party getting into a position to make the changes and reforms we want to make. I get the Caucus’ position on not holding one harmful policy hostage for dealing with another, however there is validity for pragmatic steps to achieve our mission and goals. My opinion, adopting the resolution would get press, but not the support and press we need to grow.
