Proposed motion for candidate funding

Based on a favorable vote during a Candidate Support Committee meeting on June 3, 2018, the CSC and I are seeking one additional co-sponsor for the following motion: "The LNC will provide $500 each to the campaigns of Craig Bowden (U.S. Senate UT) and Lloyd Princeton (U.S. House of Representatives NM) from the Candidate Support budget line." Each candidate has submitted a complete Candidate Support application with support documents. The CSC has reviewed the materials submitted and found them to satisfy the criteria passed by the LNC at the recent Denver meeting. As the applications are not marked confidential, I will provide them to LNC members upon request. Both candidates in this motion requested $5000 from the LNC for various projects crucial to their campaigns. With current budget constraints the CSC felt that the $500 we approved was the best we could do at this time to encourage others to emulate the effort and professionalism of Mr. Bowden's and Mr. Princeton's campaigns. Dear State Chairs and others, The final monthly leadership call of this term with Candidate Recruitment Specialist Cara Shulz and Affiliate Support Specialist Andy Burns will be be Thursday, June 7th@8PM Eastern. Andy will be updating us on where the State CRM project is. Currently the discovery phase of the project has completed and we know the cost of the user dashboard. Andy will be talking about what needs to occur to make it happen. Cara will be giving us the current update on candidate recruitment. Both will also be covering a new project where the LP will be supplying some candidates for local and municipal offices with websites for their campaigns. As Chair of the Convention Oversight Committee I will also be available for any questions regarding the convention and your state’s delegation. Seeking Co-Sponsors for Motion regarding internal debate rules for 2018 NatCon

I will be putting forward the following motion if needed, however, I would encourage all people sponsoring motions to withdraw their sponsorships until after the next COC meeting this Monday at 9:30PM Eastern. I personally had reservations for the standard we put forward and I have much greater comfort for something along the lines of what I am proposing here. I had hoped people would heed Nick’s request so I held off on this. People haven’t withdrawn other motions so, time to seek Co-sponsors for this one. ——————- Move to direct the Convention Oversight Committee to amend the Chair and Vice-Chair debate inclusion rules to include the following provisions: There shall be a maximum of 5 candidates on stage at the 2018 Libertarian National Convention during any internal debate for the office being sought. Tokens shall include as an option, “None of the Above (NOTA)”. Also, tokens shall provide a space for a write-in candidate. Delegates shall only be allotted one token per debated office and shall only select one option per token. Tokens with more than one option selected shall not be counted to determine debate inclusion. Tokens shall not be transferable. Any candidate that receives fewer tokens than NOTA for a debated office shall not be included in that debate. Token Time - some practical considerations

I already have the token artwork loaded in a virtual shopping cart on the vendor's website, ready to order. I was holding out for a couple of days only to see if I could luck into a sale price to save us a few bucks. Now there are several different motion proposals that leave me in a very inconvenient limbo. One proposal would specify that I must include certain things on the tokens, including some specific provision for NOTA. With the design already sitting in the shopping cart, the tokens contain a large blank in which the delegate writes the name of a candidate. Dictating anything else will require me to re-design for no good reason, especially since nothing prevents them from writing "NOTA", or the name of a non-candidate, or drawing a picture instead. Some propose that we do petitions instead of tokens, maybe with no restrictions on who is even eligible to sign, with one person able to sign multiple petitions. Even if we say only delegates can sign, I don't know how we would validate such petitions in a timely fashion. Sadly, even in a party which opposes fraud, we do have delegates who will cheat the system if they think they can get away with it, so some consideration of process integrity is needed. With tokens, at least we know that only delegates get them, and they are traceable to that delegate if any questions arise. If the LNC is going to dictate at the last minute that we will use petitions instead, then I shouldn't incur the cost to order the debate tokens at all, only the platform tokens. We are currently 27 days before on-site registration, when the tokens need to be ready. I don't have the luxury of waiting 10 days (or more if other motions pop up later) to see how this all plays out before I finalize the designs and hit the "order" button. It takes time to get them printed, time to ship them to me, time for me to stuff them into envelopes, and time to get them shipped to New Orleans. This is not the only task remaining on my plate to prepare for the convention.
