EOM Sept Financial Reports

The September End-of-Month Financial Reports are attached. The Accounts Payable was down to $14.8k owed to the Hyatt Columbus, and has since been paid off in full. We had a surplus in September. The reserve at the end of September was no longer negative and was at $24.3k, but still below the target reserve of $56.5k. Tim Hagan

heading over budget for LP News

Upcoming financials will show we're headed over budget on LP News for 2014. The biggest reason is that the December 2013 issue shipped so late, it's expenses ended up on the January 2014 financial results, instead of 2013. Each issue has been running about $8,500 although we only budgeted about $8,000 per issue. We budgeted for 6 issues this year, but with the December 2013 issue falling on this year, we'll hit 7 issues if we get the December one out on time this year. These numbers are not exact, but pretty close. I recommend increasing the 2014 budget for LP News by $11,500. That's $8,500 for the extra issue, plus 6x$500 for each issue. Before anyone might send a motion for that, I thought you all could discuss it amongst yourselves in case people are opposed or want to do something else. A few alternatives to consider: 1. Increase the 2014 budget for LP News by $11,500 2. Ship the December 2014 issue of LP News late so it shows up on the 2015 budget. 3. Don't send a December 2014 issue of LP News (we expect complete election coverage in the issue). Motion for a mail ballot - increase budget for Kentucky litigation

All, After our injunction to put Libertarian Senate candidate David Patterson in a debate being hosted by Kentucky Educational Television was denied, our attorney Chris Wiest suggested amending our complaint to keep moving forward on our First Amendment claims, along with equal protection, due process, and monetary damage claims. The cost to the LNC will be limited to actual costs of filing fees, depositions, expert testimony, transcription, etc. The LP KY has committed to supporting $2,000 of the continuation expenses, and has previously supported $3,250 of the initial legal bill. At the Alexandria meeting, the LNC authorized $9,000 for the Kentucky lawsuit. Mr. Wiest has billed a total of $7,500 for the lawsuit to this point, which is a final bill for that phase of the litigation. Between support from LP KY and David Patterson's campaign, the total outlay from the LNC has been $3,250, leaving $5,750 still in the budget for this litigation. Actual costs are expected not to exceed $10,000, but that's still more than the $5,750 left for this item. I am requesting that the LNC approve a budget increase for this litigation to allow for the expected cost. As before, I don't anticipate all of the budgeted expense will be spent. Also as before, there will be targeted fundraising for this action. I am requesting that the following motion be submitted as a mail ballot: Increase the budget for the Kentucky litigation from $9,000 to $14,000. -Nick

BTW a poll shows the Yes / No votes for the top two ballot initiative in Oregon (Measure 90 on Nov. 4 ballot) are in a dead heat with a very high 26% undecided. Don't know if that was before Michael Bloomberg spent $1M+ for the Yes campaign. If so, we could be in trouble. OTOH, we could see a strong upset as happened in Arizona. They say as CA goes, eventually goes the rest of the nation. Look at how screwed up CA has become with Democrats having free reign (Governor and majorities in both the Assembly & State Senate).
