Last night on the monthly Board call, I spoke of an upcoming litigation
to be filed in US District Court in the attempt to find unconstitutional
the restriction on petition circulators being able to circulate for only
one political party per election cycle in Illinois.
This morning the attorney who is going to file this case, Paul Rossi,
asked me if the Libertarian Party of Illinois wished to be a Plaintiff
to this litigation. He will handle this case on contingency, meaning the
Plaintiffs will not be charged a fee. Paul also said he would not charge
us any expenses.
I said "Yes."
I don't think there is any restriction on my ability to do this. I
called Russ Clark to ask him, and he agreed. Nevertheless, I just want
the Board to know about this and express any objections or concerns
about this.
Even though this law was upheld in state court in the past, I think it
is a strong case that might win in Federal court. We should be a
Plaintiff. I think it will strengthen the case.
Thanks,
Bill Redpath
Chair
