Team - Below is a message from our regional rep Mark Tuniweicz he asked
me to forward.
Hello Region 6 Members & Friends,
As you may be aware, I am now the Region 6 Representative. We have a
vacancy in the Alternate Role for our Region. The chairs in our region,
without objection, on March 7th agreed to a process, and I'm hopeful
that we can fill that role within the next 30 days. (As a reminder, the
9 states of Region 6 include IA, IL, MN, MT, ND, SC, SD, UT & WI)
The following points should be borne in mind by all Applicants:
1) Time and cost commitment: Alternates should plan on attending all
(3-4) in-person meetings per year as well as our national convention,
and all Zoom meetings (monthly). Attendees pay their own hotel and
travel expenses to the in-person meetings, and the online ones are
generally on Sundays at 8 or 9pm EST and can run as late as midnight,
depending on the agenda. In addition, meetings of the LNC's Executive
Committee are important for alternates to attend, these are more
sporadic but often monthly. Alternates get to sit in as observers on LNC
& EC meetings, and during confidential executive sessions of both
bodies. NDA's are required. Alternates are also able to serve on
various national committees of the LP that specify that an LNC member
only may fill the position.
2) Experience and temperament: Candidates for alternate should have
some experience not just on, say, your state board of directors, but
other municipal, nonprofit/charitable, corporate or similar boards or
committees. It's just helpful. If they have prior experience on
national LP committees, super helpful. Prior LNC experience, even more
so. To be effective, we don't need bomb throwers! We need people who
can craft effective arguments, participate actively in multiple team
projects, and communicate well. We are both very much a working board,
and a policy-setting body.
3) Drama-free: The tone that's been set for our region has been that of
a "drama-free zone"--a region that is focused on cooperating together,
and getting the work done to move the Party forward. While there will
always be differences between us as individuals, when we come together
as a region by mutual consent , the conflict-free cooperative approach
will serve us well. Alternate candidates who have demonstrated &
supported these values would be best.
4) Application process: I've asked all chairs to communicate, in their
own manner, the opportunity to serve as alternate to their members.
Candidates should submit a statement, in .pdf format, to their chair
(you can cc me to my lp.org email address), that then each chair can
share with all chairs in the region. If you haven't heard from your
state chair on this topic, you can pass this notice along as appropriate
in your state.
5) Application timing: At this time we ask that all applications be
submitted by 5pm EST Friday, March 24th. Schedules permitting, I would
host a meeting with the regional chairs around the end of March.
Depending on the number of applicants, we could also invite some or all
to participate and say a few words.
Thanks to all of you for considering this important opportunity in
service to the Libertarian Party. It's very much appreciated.
With best wishes,
Mark Tuniewicz
