Attention: Data Team
Colleagues,
I would like to share a new volunteer opportunity to help with Jury
Nullification. I recently attended a Liberty Forum in Montgomery county
where Rob Cowburn spoke about Jury Nullification and it's unique history
in Pennsylvania. I was struck with the beginnings of an idea for a new
advocacy strategy. If jury counts are public, then we should be able to
lookup how many times a criminal defendant was found not guilty with a
vote of 1 to 11. In other words, is Jury Nullification being used in the
wild? And, how can we find out about it?
Deliverables:
1. Report on the locations of PA data sources by Tuesday, August 1st.
2. Estimate viability of collection by August 6th.
2. Devise tactic on collection automation by August 8th.
I hypothesis that Jury Nullification has occurred, in the last 10
years, in Pennsylvania, to a significant degree. If true, then that
leads to some interesting questions. Why is it not being talked about?
Who are these unsung heroes? I would love to see if it's possible
compile an interesting data set for analysis by August 10th. If your up
to help, please DM me. If you would like to discuss with the group,
reply-all.
Best,
-John
