MOTION: Purchase of phone number and service for LPKY
All - I've been looking, and I cannot find in the minutes where we actually authorized the purchase of a number. We talked about it, but I don't see a motion to authorize the expenditure. Also, I have been looking at prices and they're higher than what we thought we had passed anyway. Therefore, I make the following motion: LPKY authorizes the expenditure of a setup fee of no greater than $50, and a monthly recurring expense of no greater than $25 per month, for a State Party phone number with voice mail. And I am seeking a second. -- Ken C. Moellman, Jr. 4th District Chair State Party IT Director Libertarian Party of Kentucky

With the second, I'll add the following information: This will be a VOIP number, like we used to have with Skype. That means we have a number that is NOT dependent on anything other than this committee paying the bill. It will not be using Skype though, because they do not allow porting in or porting out. We want to keep our options open for the future. Plus Skype doesn't allow for custom phone numbers anymore anyway. I am planning to purchase a custom number, that will cost approximately $20, one-time. This will give us a cool phone number again (ending in LPKY or whatever). As usual, I always try to balance cost with usefulness. I am looking at obtaining a stable service, with voicemail and email notification, that isn't tied to any person and is an asset of the party. --- Ken C. We talked about it. We thought the motion had been passed. It had not. The committee decided not to meet again until January. There are a few things stacked up behind getting a phone number. Specifically, the ability of LPKY pages to do boosts on Facebook, and the printing of the new banners. So we have a choice - don't boost our conventions on Facebook and don't print new banners until at least January, do this business by email, or hold a special meeting before January. We used to do business by email regularly from 2006-2015 and the excom seemed to do it before my time in the party as well. It actually provides the best archive of historical party action, since a previous chair lost all of the physical party records. --- Ken C.
