Convention Call - 2019 State Convention
To the State Executive Committee of the Libertarian Party of Kentucky: Please find attached: the plan for the 2019 State Convention to be held at the Kentucky Dam Village on March 2-3, 2019. When we cancelled the Thanksgiving Day scheduled meeting of this Committee, I did not realize that would put us out of sync with the convention schedule in the Constitution. This plan has to be adopted by this Committee before December 1, 2018 to avoid a bunch of procedural hassles. I would appreciate it if someone would move to accept this and we can hold a vote over email since our next meeting isn't until December 13th. If a majority approves this before Saturday (December 1st), we can bypass the "six day veto" waiting period and have our convention called in time. Either way, we will re-visit the plan during our scheduled meeting on December 13th. Special thanks to Cristi Kendrick and Dave Watson who are continuing to fill in the details with me. Best regards, -- Harlen R. Compton Chair, State Executive Committee Libertarian Party of Kentucky C: 502-475-5447 | E: harlen.compton@lpky.org
While I have serious concerns over the "break even" point, given the location of the convention, I wish to move things along and avoid Constitutional triggers of "bad things, and therefore will move to ask the committee to accept the convention plan as presented. --- Ken C. I would just like to note that if the convention had been held a week earlier, the cost per room would have been $70 per night instead of $120 per night. Also, in previous conversations with this facility, the room rental rate would have also been about half as much if it were held before March 1st. When it goes on-season, it costs more. Unfortunately the current Constitution does not permit this cheaper timing. OFF SEASON HOURS Dates: October 28 through March 1 Sunday through Thursday – 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday – 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. --- Ken C. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Ken. Setting up events in Kentucky can be and has been problematic in the past because of seasonal rates. Due to these cost differences in hotel pricing, I would like to encourage this be brought to a vote as soon as possible. Both Orbitz and Expedia have these room rates available (today) at $70/night. I'm not sure if it's a glitch in the system or what, but those savings could help us in getting more folks in attendance. Not sure if this is out of line, but I am in favor of this plan and vote aye. In light of recommendations from Mr. Moellman, I have attached a revision with an updated agenda. I would ask everyone to keep in mind the December 1, 2018 deadline on this, and the expectation that the agenda will be adjusted by this Committee as the convention grows closer (at least, that's how it usually goes).

So far the aye's are 8/11, which is more than 2/3 (1/2 +1 is all that was required). The motion to accept the 2019 State Convention Plan carries. We'll raise this again at the next scheduled meeting of the State Executive Committee on Thursday, December 13, 2018. Until then, please feel free to continue adding your vote for the archive if you wish. Thanks, everyone! On 2018-11-30 18:35, mark.gailey--- via Lpk-execomm wrote:

Nice catch on the Treasurer's report. I'll see where that can fit. As for the Elections Committee, there is a report on the certification of candidates after primary voting. Is there expected to be an elections committee report at convention aside from that? On 2018-11-27 16:33, Ken Moellman wrote:

Typically, at any convention, any standing or ad-hoc committee should give its report. If nothing else, they should report on anything substantive they did over the past year. A Secretary's Report could also be done, outlining the substantive action (motions that were passed) from the previous convention to present, in order to promote transparency in the organization and make the members more informed about what's being done on their behalf. I'm also a fan of Officer Reports, generally. So your opening remarks, as currently outlined in the Agenda, would really be the "Chair's Report". --- Ken C.
