Nominating Candidate for Special Election Candidates can let us know they want to run or if we want we can also look for candidates if we know in time reach out call local Ls. We did this for a race last year but we did not get any one who was interested in running and unfortunately for everyones we had not everyone had correct numbers. We tried to reach out to almost 150 Ls for house 63 last year. We have to ask Elections Committee when we know we want to have a nominating convention to call one and tell them when we want to have it THIS IS BECAUSE OF STATE LAWS that require us to have nominating conventions a certain way and that they must also match our constitution/by laws we follow this process to protect candidates from possibly being taken of /contested Normal meeting notice is 7 days to prevent shenanigans we can agree to an emergency or sooner meeting this also follows robert rules which the party has tried to follow to help in guiding meetings We have to have stuff in 49 days before election We would have to get signatures this is true for Rs and Ds too Our ballot access does not count for special elections Having a convention we can discuss more than one nominee can be proposed They do have to be a member registered L by Jan 1 etc and whatever state requirements like that they have to be a certain age or whatever it varies by office They also have to file as a candidate We would want to also approve any potential costs like if we help with filing fees and def potential notary expense this is because of KREF its important we track how we spend money We have to actually get the correct form for the nomination fill it out right (even making sure we had this for a race where we had lot of time in Boone Co last year took a while) As well as finding out when state was having it and our legal deadlines To actually get the nomination in again by state laws the Chair and Secretary have to meet and get a nomination form signed (at the same time as witnessed by notary) And turn it into the appropriate place which depends on race like last year for Boone co race that was the clerk For this race we may have had to MAIL signature forms (these all have to turn them in so that means getting 100+ ppl to agree to sign) getting them mailed the right thing to sign and getting it back.
