EMAIL BALLOT Motion to respond with resolution
We have an electronic mail ballot presented by the Chair per the bylaws of LPIL Article V section G. All VOTES are due in (6) business days (by May 14, 2024 at 12:01 AM Central) at which time the ballot will close, unless everyone votes or expressly abstains, the ballot can close early. Co-Sponsors: Walden IV, Leonard, DiMasi. ================================================================== MOTION: The LPIL shall respond to the LNC's invitation to former President Trump to speak at the 2024 National Convention with the following Resolution: WHEREAS, Extending an invitation to former President Trump to speak at the 2024 National Convention was a consternation to the hard-working activists in the Libertarian Party. WHEREAS, The 2024 National Convention is intended to nominate and promote the Libertarian Presidential candidate, rather than provide a platform for an opposing candidate or party to campaign. WHEREAS, Hosting this speech would be disrespectful to the Libertarian Presidential candidates in addition to many LPIL activists who are contributing countless hours petitioning for ballot access on behalf of the Party's future nominee. BE IT RESOLVED, The Libertarian Party of Illinois calls on the Libertarian National Committee to rescind its invitation to former President Trump along with all other invitations to opposing Presidential candidates to speak at the 2024 Libertarian National Convention. I believe that it's important to mention this bylaws violation so the resolution is not simply dismissed as LPIL not liking a decision by national; it is a direct violation of the National party's bylaws and principles. Therefore, I would like to motion to further amend this resolution to add the following paragraph before "BE IT RESOLVED": WHEREAS, inviting Presidential candidates from opposing parties is a clear violation of Article 2 of the National Libertarian Bylaws. More specifically, it goes against the following clause. "The Party is organized to implement and give voice to the principles embodied in the Statement of Principles by: 1. functioning as a libertarian political entity separate and distinct from all other political parties or movements;" having the 2024 Republican Party Presidential nominee speak at the 2024 Libertarian National Convention not separating the Libertarian Party from the Republican Party. The motion is seconded. We are still in the first two days of 'open voting' so I will ask all of you to consider this addition, and I will reset the 'open voting' period to end at 1:30 PM on 5/9. Votes are always amendable during open voting. I will also simultaneously add Julie Fox as a co-sponsor per her request. On 2024-05-06 00:01, Ken Mattes wrote:

If possible and ok with Chair Redpath, I would like to call an emergency meeting to expedite a response rather than waiting until the 14th. Note this is a time sensitive issue that can be hashed away in a short meeting.
Hi, sorry, I'm an idiot. The word 'is' should be preceding 'not separating' in the final sentence of the paragraph I motioned to add. I can add myself as a co-sponsor as well. Also, the intent was to put this paragraph before the final paragraph such that the resolution now reads the following: MOTION: The LPIL shall respond to the LNC's invitation to former President Trump to speak at the 2024 National Convention with the following Resolution: WHEREAS, Extending an invitation to former President Trump to speak at the 2024 National Convention was a consternation to the hard-working activists in the Libertarian Party. Small corrections, added a space to separate a run-on, added Maffei as co-sponsor, added 'is' to second to last paragraph. On 2024-05-07 21:59, Ken Mattes wrote:
So, for the sake of clarity, here is the current motion:
We have an electronic mail ballot presented by the Chair per the bylaws of LPIL Article V section G.
All VOTES are due in (6) business days (by May 14, 2024 at 12:01 AM Central) at which time the ballot will close, unless everyone votes or expressly abstains, the ballot can close early.
***PLEASE NOTE per our bylaws, the open voting period is the first 48 hours after issuance of the ballots. Votes can be cast after that time but not changed.
Co-Sponsors: Walden IV, Leonard, DiMasi, Fox, Maffei.
================================================================== MOTION: The LPIL shall respond to the LNC's invitation to former President Trump to speak at the 2024 National Convention with the following Resolution:
WHEREAS, Extending an invitation to former President Trump to speak at the 2024 National Convention was a consternation to the hard-working activists in the Libertarian Party.
WHEREAS, inviting Presidential candidates from opposing parties is a clear violation of Article 2 of the National Libertarian Bylaws. More specifically, it goes against the following clause. "The Party is organized to implement and give voice to the principles embodied in the Statement of Principles by: 1. functioning as a libertarian political entity separate and distinct from all other political parties or movements;" having the 2024 Republican Party Presidential nominee speak at the 2024 Libertarian National Convention is not separating the Libertarian Party from the Republican Party.
BE IT RESOLVED, The Libertarian Party of Illinois calls on the Libertarian National Committee to rescind its invitation to former President Trump along with all other invitations to opposing Presidential candidates to speak at the 2024 Libertarian National Convention. The Libertarian Party of Illinois firmly stands with other state affiliates that have voiced their grievances regarding political opponents being given a platform at our own convention. Since this is an addition and not a substantial change, I've decided to extend the open voting period but not the 5/14 deadline.
