Website presentation - Time Sensitive
LNC - Over the last several months, a top tier design and branding company has been working on a proposal for lp.org. I have seen a couple mockups, and the design is outstanding. They have quite a few things to offer, including backend and front end development. In visual terms, a blind man can tell that they are the best we have seen so far. They have some branding and content notes that are pretty solid as well. This is something that transcends the IT committee, because it deeply involves branding strategy, not just design and backend. What they have to say could potentially revolutionize what we're doing, or be a terribly foolish proposal. This is not something that we should sit on until the July meeting, which is highly compressed as it is. Their schedule is also very tight, and unless we can do the presentation before the 29th, we'll have to wait for several more weeks (designers of this caliber are in heavy demand). Jorge, who runs this team, is Libertarian, with decades of experience. The team has worked on high level political campaigns, top end commercial stuff, etc. They have already done quite a bit of work for us for free on facebook, and has done the initial, and very thorough brand analysis for us for free because of their passion for the Libertarian cause. Our website is our most important form of outreach. Even if we decide not to go with this team, I believe we should hear them out in a timely manner. To put some possibilities out there: How do next Monday, Tues, or Wed at 8, 830, or 9 eastern sound? We don't have ways to hold official meetings outside of executive committee, but can we get at least a majority of the LNC and the ED to attend a proposal on something that could literally transform the political map of this country?
MR. Vohra, Count me in on Wednesday. I would like to be apart of branding as well. Best, Brett H. 1. Arvin, are these people friends of yours? 2. Geoff and Carla, does the party ever receive proposals from other companies wanting to redesign our Web site? What do you think would happen if we sent out a request for proposals? 3. What is the name of the company? 4. What does "top tier" mean? What does "designers of this caliber" mean? 5. How much money do they want? 6. Why am I learning in the past few days about "a proposal for lp.org" "a top tier design and branding company has been working on" "over the last several months"? 7. Why do I have to be available for an online virtual "meeting" on a certain day at a certain time to watch a "presentation"? Why cannot these people prepare a video, post it online, and send us an e-mail with a link to it? Then we can watch it at our convenience, just like we watched that sexual harassment video? 8. What's the rush? Why must something that has been worked on by this company for several months be decided on the LNC in a matter of days? 1. Arvin, are these people friends of yours?
We have not met in person, but I can certainly vouch for their competence and dedication to the Libertarian cause. I "met" them when I noticed the strikingly superior quality of their work in one of our volunteer design groups on facebook.
2. Geoff and Carla, does the party ever receive proposals from other companies wanting to redesign our Web site? What do you think would happen if we sent out a request for proposals?
Without speaking on their behalf, I personally think it's a perfectly good
idea. I ran across these designers when I saw a sample libertarian party logo they had made. It looked awesome. The logo is not the subject of the presentation, as far as I know.
3. What is the name of the company?
I'll look it up, but the key part of the company is Jorge Gonzales, the lead designer.
4. What does "top tier" mean? What does "designers of this caliber" mean?
Top tier means the type of people that work on presidential political campaigns, fortune 500 companies, and produce high quality, effective work. To some extent this is subjective
5. How much money do they want?
The bid is in the 80k range because it involves so many things, but there may be several options we decide against. There are some things they want to do that I personally don't favor, but recognize that many on the LNC will. Decisions of this scale, I believe, should involve more than just my personal preferences. My personal preference would be a design-only redesign, which would cost much less. However, others have discussed importance of data, etc., which this team has quite a bit to say on. I personally don't really see the need, but I know many of you strongly disagree with my view on that.
6. Why am I learning in the past few days about "a proposal for lp.org" "a top tier design and branding company has been working on" "over the last several months"?
I didn't see any reason to bring a non-proposal to the LNC's attention, although I mentioned it to Geoff and Carla. There was nothing of substance to report. Now there is.
7. Why do I have to be available for an online virtual "meeting" on a certain day at a certain time to watch a "presentation"?
This allows LNC members to ask questions, voice concerns, ask for clarification.
Why cannot these people prepare a video, post it online, and send us an e-mail with a link to it? Then we can watch it at our convenience, just like we watched that sexual harassment video?
Makes questions and discussions impossible.
8. What's the rush? Why must something that has been worked on by this company for several months be decided on the LNC in a matter of days?
Our website is an eyesore and a disaster. I would love to be able to say in our social media outreach, "For more info, please visit www.lp.org." However, our current website is just an eye-searing liability. Obviously, we can wait indefinitely on this. If the LNC is happy with our current look, I suppose my one voice can't do much. But I will say this: our membership is not happy with our website, and people outside the Libertarian party find it hilarously bad. We don't have to decide in a few days, but I don't see what advantage we gain by waiting several weeks to just see the pitch. Seeing a pitch is not the same as making a decision.

We will be having an EC meeting at 9 on Tuesday, I will not be available on Monday. I have only one question: will the presentation be available for more than a "dog & pony" show? I distrust relying on just my initial responses, and prefer being deliberate.
