Convention Voting Process Committee
Dan Fishman was elected to that committee but is no longer eligible as staff. At the meeting there was a tie of 7 votes each for the last spot between David Valenti and Richard Fast, with Richard Fast winning the coin toss. However, my recount shows that David Valenti had eight votes and not seven. It seems to me then that David Valenti would take the place now vacated by Fishman, am I correct? -- * In Liberty,* *Libertarian Party and Libertarian National Committee Secretary *- Caryn.Ann. Your analysis is correct, but will not take effect unless and until the contract is signed and Mr. Fishman starts in the staff position. -Nick On Thu, Mar 28, 2019 at 7:39 PM Caryn Ann Harlos via Lnc-business <lnc-business@hq.lp.org> wrote:

If as you say Valenti had eight votes, then there was no tie of seven votes each? Then Valenti's on the committee, and not Fast. If Fishman vacates the committee, then a new committee spot would be open. --- Elizabeth Van Horn On 2019-03-28 22:39, Caryn Ann Harlos via Lnc-business wrote:

That is not automatic - the LNC would have to take action to do so (RONR 444-446). On Fri, Mar 29, 2019 at 3:42 AM Elizabeth Van Horn <elizabeth.vanhorn@lp.org> wrote:

Thanks! I figured there was more than one person on both :(. I still wonder what triggered the recount. I agree that David V would be on the committee, and not Richard, given that vote...then, if and when a vacancy occurs, Richard could be nominated to fill it, as the next highest vote getter. I and Ms Mattson audit all ballots to learn what can be improved. Additionally when creating the tally sheet my totals didn’t match the vote teller sheet for the winners. Glad we caught it! CAH> Dan Fishman was elected to that committee but is no longer eligible as staff. I'm looking at the wording of the motion that created the CVPC: "Create a special committee to examine and make recommendations to improve the voting methods and processes used at our national conventions (Voting Process Committee). This committee shall provide reports of its progress at each LNC meeting leading up to the 2020 national convention and shall work with, and confer with, the Convention Oversight Committee and the Bylaws and Rules Committee as appropriate. The Committee shall comprise nine (9) members appointed by the LNC with an interim Chair appointed by the LNC Chair. The Committee shall select its own Chair at its first meeting. Additionally, the LNC Chair and LNC Secretary shall be non-voting ex officio members of this Committee." I actually don't see anything that would make Mr. Fishman ineligible to serve on this committee, even if he is a member of staff. We have a policy that forbids employees from being on the LNC, or from being on bylaws-created committees, but this committee is an LNC creation. Mr. Fishman is fairly well qualified to serve on this committee if he wishes to continue. I fully expect that the LNC will vote to approve Mr. Fishman's hiring. If he decides that his plate is full with that task and wishes to resign from the CVPC, certainly that would be understandable. CAH> So I understand from here that Mr. Fishman has resigned from the committee. *So I am seeking co-sponsors on a motion to appoint David Valente to the vacancy. I don't know whether Mr. Fishman's comment here was predicated on the beginning comment suggesting that he would be ineligible once hired? Before we start this email ballot, perhaps we just should make sure he understands that he could actually continue to serve as both and confirm that he still wishes to resign from the CVPC. -Alicia On Sun, Mar 31, 2019 at 10:37 PM Elizabeth Van Horn via Lnc-business < lnc-business@hq.lp.org> wrote:

Interesting, I thought that staff could not be on any committees. Dan, can you please clarify your intentions? On Mon, Apr 1, 2019 at 12:22 AM Alicia Mattson via Lnc-business < lnc-business@hq.lp.org> wrote:
