Join Us for LP Happy Hour in a Virtual Convention Hall
We've set up a Virtual Convention Hall in Zoom, and we'd like to join us there for a drink! Come see our iterative process and see how we've improved over our last attempt. We're not conducting any business. There is a richer registration and approval process -- a mock credentialing done by volunteers. You'll see when you sign up that we're asking many more questions in your registration process, and then we evaluate your answers to those questions before we decide to let you enter the main room. Assuming you pass our mock credentialing (and you will!) you'll be in the main hall, where we will be drinking and having a good time! Here's the invitation: I'll also be sending this to the State Chairs for them to send to their delegation. Eventually we'll limit participation to only people on the official delegate list, but for now we're just looking at functionality. Hi there, You are invited to Libertarian Party Happy Hour in a Virtual Convention Hall When: May 8, 2020 05:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada) We're going to explore some new possibilities with a virtual hall and breakout rooms. I can't make it. I asked for more notice in the future. In vain apparently. I already cancelled some family time with my husband, I cannot do so again. I know exactly why these are being rushed through - to influence votes for tomorrow. I am not at all appreciative of the discourtesy involved in the ridiculously short notice. *In Liberty,* * Personal Note: I have what is commonly known as Asperger's Syndrome (part of the autism spectrum). I must echo the Secretary's concerns. 5 Hours notice is insufficient time to adjust schedules. Although I find stress tests important, I must say let's not be doing them to our members and delegates. --- FRANCIS WENDT LNC Region 1 Alternate 406.595.5111 On 2020-05-08 15:12, Caryn Ann Harlos via Lnc-business wrote:

I am just learning and testing software as fast as I can and as soon as I am ready. I am really appreciative that everyone wants to join, but all we're doing is functionality. Nothing official is happening, Noone is missing out by not being in. I prefer having real members test. Last night at 2am I had given up on Zoom as a platform -- in fact I posted about it to staff on slack a midnight, but then stuck with it for 2 more hours. Then I had an epiphany sleeping that woke me up, got out of bed at 6am and started working. At 10am I started testing my ideas, and was pleased with the results. At 11 I demoed to LPHQ which some of you saw in standup, got pretty good feedback. Tweaked a bit, created the environment, sent the notice to the LNC at noon. Honestly as fast as I could. I had the normal Happy Hour already scheduled for 5pm, I had Libertarian Candidate Hour on LPTV at 8pm. I thought I'd like to have something to report before the LNC meeting tomorrow, I gave everyone as much notice as I possibly could have. I don't know how else to answer your question as to why I could not give more notice. I also want to complete this as fast as I possibly can, while delivering a quality product. One of the reasons for the slowness in getting in was scale. Today it was just me, Mat and Tyler running everything. I talked with Emily Salvette and Susan Hogarth and we believe with the credentials committee running credentialing we'll be much faster. If this is the way (and I'm not convinced it's the best technical path, but once we got it going it showed promise) we'd run it with many more producers/facilitators. The essence of the bottleneck was that I had 2 jobs. Mat was the producer in the main delegation hall, Tyler ran "credentials" I was the architect and traffic director, setting up the hall and the rooms, moving "uncredentialed" people to credentials, and then credentialed people to the delegate hall. And of course I was tech support. I was also the person processing the submitted forms and sending out the confirmations. When the rush got big at 5, I had to stop processing forms because there was a ton of traffic. Tyler was magnificent in "credentialling" though. Then I thought we'd cleared the decks, and Tyler sent me a text from Richard and I went back to look at registrants and there were 80 more. So we processed them too. But let me be clear -- all we're doing here is testing software. Every trial the process gets better. We're still not ready for a rehearsal, let alone a dress rehearsal. Considering this blistering pace -- two user facing demos in 4 days? But this is TESTING. The entire point of this is that things are SUPPOSED to go wrong. The user experience is going to be terrible in spots. I'm very appreciative of everyone wanting to help out with testing -- but testing SUCKS. QA (quality assurance) can't be neglected though, so I am a believer in test test test and test again. Get in as many tests as possible as fast as possible. People who want to help things get better should jump in and help by participating in tests, and bring patience. People who want a smooth and happy experience shouldn't be involved at this level. And my intent is to keep testing and getting better. And I promise when we get to the point that I've got something I think is serviceable we'll have MUCH bigger and more structured tests. Till then I intend to keep moving as fast as I can from a technical stand point, and notifying the LNC as soon as I can about the next trial. Dan has been killing himself for the LP and maintaining a really positive attitude and sense of purpose through it all. I know we are not suppose to have opinions on staff but sometimes it’s important to see a staff perspective. We are working hard and are working to be proud of the work we produce. We know how important all of these things are because it is all we do and we are required to produce results and not opinion. These are tests runs and we have a limited staff working to adapt to the work life balance of COVID’s impact on American Liberties and the urgency of convention in a Presidential year. We didn’t sign up for all nighters, but we are here for the party. I hope the LNC continues to support us in the work we do. -Tara

Dear Ms. Harlos, If LNC members are going to refer directly to staff members and complain about staff members on the LNC Business list, it is unfair for those _SAME_ LNC members to object to staff members respectfully responding on the LNC Business list.

Mr. Fishman, I understand all of that but let me be more specific as to the purpose of my question. The attendees last time were promised that we would have more notice. While working quickly and using your expertise, why did it have to be held Friday instead of say Monday so that we could have notice. Why did we get even LESS notice. That is the thrust of my question. A promise was broken, and despite the Chair's characterizations to which I object, it is not casting aspersions to ask why that promise was broken. Further, to those observing they may not realize that you and I have far more interactions than this list, including my attendance at the daily staff stand-up in which we have many back and forth interactions, so this is not like some random LNC member that you don't know fairly well asking you pointed questions. You know me well enough to know the respect and appreciation I have for staff and their efforts. Enough to make time nearly every day to attend their meeting. I am not appreciative of our chair characterizing my and Ms. Mattson's concerns as aspersions while casting very real aspersions on the CoC. Of course he can do as he pleases, and I am sure my objections are duly noted. *In Liberty,* * Personal Note: I have what is commonly known as Asperger's Syndrome (part of the autism spectrum). I had the normal Happy Hour already scheduled for 5pm, I had Libertarian Candidate Hour on LPTV at 8pm.

Dear Ms. Harlos, With all due respect, your opinions about who is and isn't allowed to speak, what they are allowed to say, and how they are allowed to respond to your emails are exactly that: opinions. They become no more persuasive than they are with interminable repetition. Yours truly, Nick On Sat, May 9, 2020 at 4:58 AM Caryn Ann Harlos <caryn.ann.harlos@lp.org> wrote:

Dear All, I just wanted to take a moment to thank our patient and hard working staff and legal council for their efforts to advance the Party during these tribulating and uncertain times, both due to COVID19 and the status of our convention. I want to thank Dan Fishman for pulling all of the stops to create an online convention environment that may or may not be realized, and sacrificing sleepless nights to do so. I want to thank Tara DeSisto for continuing to push for fundraising in an environment with unusual conditions, not seen since 9/11 and the 2008 recession, that is challenging to raise funds in. I want to thank Oliver Hall, whom which I have had the pleasure to work with in the past, for representing us as council for the last half decade, including our State affiliates and candidates. And lastly, I want to thank the delegates and Party members, for tolerating the LNC as we work through these uncharted waters together, and hope to come to a conclusion that upsets the least amount of people for the least amount of time, because no matter what the LNC does as of today, there will be trade-offs and sacrifices. We can only do the next best thing, what that is is not yet determined, but I as a member am determined to pick a plan that delivers us into action that is concrete, achievable, and effective, rather than kicking the can down the road of uncertainty. We as a body must demonstrate, not explicate, let each side of this debate achieve victory through action. For any momentary "win" through argument is a Pyrrhic victory: The resentment and ill will you stir up is stronger and lasts longer than any momentary change of opinion. I will see you all at Noon, prepare your best plans to move forward and state your case clearly, we can only make one decision.

I had the normal Happy Hour already scheduled for 5pm, I had Libertarian Candidate Hour on LPTV at 8pm.
