Colleagues,

If we make any public statement about today’s tragedy, I ask that it be limited to expressing condolences for the victims and their families.

I am certain all of us realize – and cannot help but feel – the importance of providing aid and comfort to those experiencing a great sense of loss and grief.  I hope we never lose sight that our longing to change the world for the better is motivated by empathy and a desire to improve the general welfare of fellow human beings.
