I confess the particulars of the coin-tossing didn't strike me as a matter of historical significance either, although I did not read Caryn Ann's request that it be included as a joke, merely as whimsical. But in seizing the opportunity to likewise embrace whimsy and dramatize the incident for posterity, you certainly managed to pack a lot into that short passage! Among the sly political commentary:

• Asserting that a radical "gleefully" accepted authority granted by "the cult of the omnipotent state"
• Invoking Roberts Rules of Order as a "sacred text" against majoritarian tyranny (I think many view it more along the lines of a necessary evil)
• Attributing the choice of coin tosser to female privilege

Notwithstanding the cleverly barbed remarks noted above, your use of language in general and the Monty Python and Isaac Newton references in particular were enjoyable and artfully written. With an evident storytelling ability to match a presumed command of the rules, you must have made a formidable Dungeons & Dragons dungeon master at some point in your career.   :-)

As for inducting your "more entertaining and detailed rendition" into the historical archives, I suggest that we include it with the minutes in the form of a minority report. I've often felt that the historical record could benefit from the inclusion of such reports, even at the cost of blaspheming against the "sacred text of Sir Robert" or invoking the wrath of the powerful Parliamentarians Guild.

I am baffled as to why this particular coin toss is perceived by some to be more of a historical event than the Guy McLendon / Doug Craig coin toss during the 2014 convention for the 5th at-large seat, or the drawing of names at the 2004 convention to break a tie between Admiral Colley and Sean Haugh.  But if you believe it to be so, since I added New Jersey to the minutes, then will my more entertaining and detailed rendition of the event be inducted into the historical archives?

Lo, the medallion of arbitration thoroughly dissed the face of the founding father and landed with its homage to the state facing skyward.  Maid Harlos did gleefully claim the mantle of authority granted to her by the cult of the omnipotent state, and vanquished Sir Starr to the lowly position of committee alternate.

I wasn't kidding.  I think the call is both relevant (the coin decided) and is an interesting bit of history to be preserved.  If the call of the coin wasn't determinative I wouldn't think it should be included (just like the date nor the metal components were not) but the actual call of "New Jersey" was pertinent and an interesting bit of Libertarian lore.

Is it important that it happened to be a New Jersey quarter?  I also didn't note that the paper ballots after round 1 were from hotel-branded notepads and said "Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown" at the top, and "600 Commonwealth Place, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 Tel: 412-594-5152  Fax:  412 594-5130 wyndham.com" at the bottom.
