Dan, Thank you for the detailed update, and congratulations on being considered for your town's equivalent of city council! (I trust you plan to accept?) We did adopt at our last meeting, for better or for worse, a set of criteria to qualify for LNC campaign funding which I trust will be made available to any state-level New Jersey candidates who may request financial assistance with their ballot access efforts. If I understand you correctly to be saying that the petition on which you need 7500 valid signatures would qualify several candidates simultaneously, that's an interesting situation which our funding guidelines may not have anticipated, but while that gets sorted out, national staff putting out an email seeking volunteer help for the effort certainly sounds reasonable. Is it realistic however to think that the Connecticut LP can ride to 20% in the governor's race on the strength of massive amounts of robocalling? A lot of people don't like robocalls. I'm not sure they make up in volume what they cost in goodwill. And what about the qualities of the candidate himself? The best campaign marketing plan in the world is of zero value to the freedom movement unless it is used to elect someone who has solid libertarian positions and will stick with them in office to advance the cause in the face of increased statist pressures to "get with the program" and "go along to get along". Does your 2018 Strategic Plan give any thought to the question of how to avoid someone the Connecticut LP elects, or recruits from another party, taking un-libertarian actions once in office as a Libertarian, as occurred in Nevada with a candidate to whom the LNC provided funds? The region which includes California has for many years (with the consent of other states in the region) chosen its LNC regional representation based on elections at the California affiliate's convention, rather than with a vote of delegates at the national convention. The new representation for Region 4, effective immediately and continuing into the next LNC term, is: Region Representative: Jeff Hewitt Region Alternate: Kenneth Brent Olsen I have added Mr. Olsen's Gmail address to the list of people permitted to send to this list, but he will need staff to set up his @lp.org email inbox which can receive emails from this list. Hello LNC, and the CoC, This document and fundraiser idea, is for consideration of the Convention Oversight Committee. It's an idea from an LPIN member, Erin Meadors, who is an LPIN County Chair, and is also facilitated with input from Jared Hall, who is the LPIN Political Director. (I've attached the document.) The idea suggested as an easy to implement fundraiser that could be done at this year's LP 2018 NOLA convention. Also, could be for future national conventions. I was particularly happy to see the focus of the fundraiser is for the purpose of aiding LP candidates. I'm happy to present this on behalf of an LPIN member(s) who originated the idea, and also because the overall objective is to help LP candidates. When you read through the proposed idea, you can see lots of "team" ideas come to mind. State affiliates could be teams, caucuses, groups of friends, etc. There could even be some sort of play-off, with winning teams advancing to play each other. All, I've copied and pasted below, a request from one of my state chairs, asking why the state party received no notice of an event being planned in their state by national, and no invitation to help out or to participate. Do we not have such a policy to involve the state affiliates in our outreach events? Justin O'Donnell LNC Region 8 Representative Hi Justin, I have a request for my LNC regional representative. It's possible something got lost because of the transition of leadership, or something was sent a long time ago, but as far as I know, no notification was sent from LPUS to LPNH regarding their plans at PorcFest. I'm trying to remember whether or not Rachel mentioned anything to me a while ago - it's possible but I don't remember such a notification. Regardless of whether or not that happened, I don't think it's a lot to ask that the state party leadership receive notice from LPUS when they are planning to attend a notable event in our state. Coordination between the national and the state party is a useful thing, especially so that efforts are not duplicated and we can make the most of our outreach efforts. Can you please investigate as to whether or not any notice was sent out, and if not, why it was not. I'd also like to know if there is any policy that exists that requires LPUS to inform the state party of notable events taking place. It's not unreasonable to expect that state parties will participate in fairs and festivals, and if the LPUS is also planning to participate in one it should absolutely be talking to the state party so that both can make the most of the effort. It makes us look like amateurs when we're caught off guard not knowing that something like this will be happening.
