Dear All, I expect that members of the Libertarian National Committee will disagree with each other with respect. I expect that after the Libertarian National Committee comes to a decision on an issue, be it the purchase of an office or the choice to make a goal a certain number of candidates running for public office, that every member of the committee will either support the goal or at least stop trying to publicly fight against it after they've lost. I expect that every member of the Libertarian National Committee will be polite and respectful to the rest of the members and to the national office staff. If anyone is unwilling or unable to meet these expectations, I will happily accept your resignation from the Libertarian National Committee and wish you the best of luck in whatever future endeavors you choose. Credit where credit is due – Request for LP press release on Trump's bold regulatory reforms

Like most Libertarians, I was dismayed upon hearing of Donald Trump's cruel and unconstitutional executive order issued Friday barring refugees from entering the United States, and singling out people from seven Muslim-majority countries to be denied admittance as well, initially including even green card holders (though embarrassingly for the administration, they later had to backpedal on that). People across the country are protesting the ban, and rightly so: http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2017/01/29/watch-live-protests-out… Thus I was very glad to see the LP quickly issued a strong press release condemning the action and making it clear that we support the Muslims whose rights are being violated – https://www.lp.org/we_stand_with_you/ . The unequivocal "We stand with you" declaration is exactly the kind of language I think we ought to be using more often when communicating to victims of the State, and I commend Lauren Daugherty or whoever came up with it (her name appears in the byline at https://www.lp.org/we_stand_with_you/ ). Yesterday, however, it turns out that Trump did something equally momentous but really positive – and I'm not being sarcastic! As was alluded to in Thomas Knapp's Rational Review Digest l where I read about it (http://rationalreview.com/archives/245914) Libertarians like writer L. Neil Smith have been advocating such a reform for years. If it is carried out and enforced, this will mean a sea change in the right direction: "President Trump on Monday signed an executive order that would require agencies to revoke two regulations for every new rule they want to issue. The executive order is aimed at dramatically rolling back federal regulations, one of his top campaign promises. … Trump's order does make exceptions for emergencies and national security." http://thehill.com/regulation/overnights/316893-overnight-regulation-trump-… While this doesn't change my view that Donald Trump in the White House remains a disaster waiting to happen, it's nice to see such dramatic proof that the executive pen won't be solely wielded to tighten the screws of the incipient police state. Possibly even more exciting, the article also notes that the Trump administration has already imposed a regulatory freeze: "White House chief of staff Reince Priebus sent a memo to agency heads hours after the inauguration advising them not to issue any more regulations." The president even had something intelligent and nuanced to say on the subject: "This isn't a knock on President Obama; this is a knock on many president[s] preceding me," he said, referring to the burdens on businesses. "Regulation has been horrible for big business, but it's been worse for small business." Further according to the Hill article, Trump also said he isn't done targeting regulations, and reiterated "his campaign promise to try and cut 75 percent of rules." Dare we hope that he actually means it? While I wouldn't want to see us make a habit of praising the ruling establishment, in the spirit of fairness and giving credit where credit is due, I encourage the chair and/or staff to issue a Libertarian Party press release commending the new administration for these actions. Here are a couple factoids from The Hill piece that could be good to cite in a release: "The U.S. isn't the first country to impose such a restriction on regulators. Trump could use similar policies in Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom as a model for his order. For every rule issued in the U.K., three existing rules must be eliminated. According to a U.K. government report, that requirement saved businesses £885 million from May 5, 2015 to May 26, 2016, or nearly $1.1 billion based on current conversion rates." LP.org update

You may have seen complaints lately that our LP.org website was intermittently failing to load, instead showing an "error establishing a database connection" message. We believe that problem has been resolved. Although I am of the superstition that nothing is more likely to break a website than to write a note saying it is fixed (on a Friday night before leaving work for the weekend), I guess I feel I need to run it through this extra superstition exercise to verify its robustness or to expose weaknesses that still need addressing. The website was fixed by having our design firm move it and reinstalling it to a new hosting service, as was our plan back in December. Back at the December LNC meeting, we had discussed issues with the website, and part of the resolution of that discussion was that I'd be having our website moved to try to resolve many technical issues with it. Since that meeting, things got even worse with the website, with it failing to even display at all half the time, but now I think we're on the right track. We have not added all of the content that needs to be added, or made lots of other improvements that need to happen. But, now that the website has been moved and installed in its intended new destination, and we think it's stable, that means we are now busy working and making progress addressing the other various issues related to the website. I'm copying Mr. Moulton because he has been especially diligent helping us to realize the shortcomings of our website changes. I did want to let him and others know that we have not uploaded the historical content wanted or resolved dealing with the many historical links that no longer work. We had been in kind of a holding pattern, waiting on the website to be moved and reinstalled before working to add content and improve the design. Now that it's moved, we're free address the other issues. In the email blast below, it mentions that the LNC expects to spend $130k on Ohio. Didn't we budget $130k total for ballot access, comprised of $100k for Ohio and $30k for Arkansas? DATA, The LP and everything

Members, This call starts shortly. Affiliate Development Specialist Andy Burns will be presenting his plans for herding the cats that are the LP's Data and it's challenges. It's going to be with regards to bringing Raiser's Edge NXT to those affiliates willing and if needed developing other integrated data management for their use with the national party as applicable and desired. This will be part of a strategic plan I wish to work with him on for the LP and it's affiliates. This zombie horse has wandered aimlessly in the desert as we have continued to beat it. We are going to develop a plan and for those states that wish to get on. I would like as many as are able to be on this call.
