Hi Daniel, Thank you very much for your Aug. 26 letter (below), and my apologies for the delayed reply. On committee transparency, I couldn't agree with you more. Transparency of our operations in general remains one of my top priorities, and I'm in strong agreement with Caryn that this needs to be implemented with regard to LNC subcommittees. I hope yourself and other LP members who understand the importance of this will pay attention to who in the leadership may not be on board and let them know you expect them to vote for sunshine and bottom-up governance. I also support having an LNC meeting before the election, and hope we will manage to arrange and hold an online meeting this month. And I obviously share your disappointment that the stronger language that I proposed on the gun rights resolution was not adopted. Are there any other resolutions or motions that you or others reading on the reflector list would like to see put forward? Don't hesitate to make suggestions, especially if they come with specific proposed language written in resolution form (Whereas...; Whereas...; Whereas...; Therefore...), or amendments to the LNC Policy Manual (the rules that the LNC has adopted to govern our operations on matters not covered by the Bylaws, online at http://www.lp.org/files/20160526_LNC_Policy_Manual.pdf ). Last night, at a local political event, former National Vice Chair, Mark Rutherford, made a point to share with me his feedback regarding fulfillment from the national office. He was EXTREMELY complimentary about how quickly items were received. I've also experienced a VERY quick turnaround with my most recent order, despite asking Casey directly to put me at the back of the line. Johnson and Weld on Guns

FYI should you get any inquiries regarding William Weld on guns, see his clarifying statement posted below. This is in response to an earlier comment he made that raised concerns for some in the gun community. On a related note, here's some info on Gary Johnson v. Donald Trump on guns: Trump once supported a ban on assault weapons and a longer waiting period to buy a gun. In 2012, he tweeted that President Barack Obama had "spoken for me and every American" in his remarks at a vigil for the Newtown school shooting victims. He now says he's pro-Second Amendment. Trump suggested in a tweet that he wants to discuss banning gun sales to those on the terrorist watch lists, a proposal Johnson opposes because some names may erroneously appear on them. Trump has said mentally ill people should not have guns. Gary Johnson has consistently advocated for gun rights. The exception is he says he's open to a discussion about how to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill, but also showed hesitancy to support a law on this. He notes that it carries the dangerous potential for the government to declare someone to be mentally ill who is not, thus infringing on their right to keep and bear arms. Overall, Gary Johnson has been far more consistently pro-gun than Donald Trump. draft convention minutes

Attached are my first draft convention minutes. There is no Waldo, as the procedures for approving convention minutes don't necessarily require that an updated draft be produced before approval. LP Bylaws Article 10.9 states: "The Convention Secretary shall produce draft convention minutes within 60 days of the adjournment of the Convention and present them to the National Committee. Draft convention minutes shall be posted on the Party’s website at least 14 days prior to being submitted to the National Committee for approval by a two-thirds vote." That 14 days doesn't necessarily have to start today. I will likely wait a week or two to give a chance for the LNC to review before I ask staff to post a version that could potentially be approved. -Alicia

Motion to Amend the Ballot Access Budget

Dear All, The good news is that we are still on track to have our Presidential candidate on all 50 state ballots and the District of Columbia. The bad news is that it cost more than we had anticipated at our July meeting. At that meeting the Ballot Access budget was increased to $340,000. We have presently spent approximately $381,000 on ballot access, which exceeds our budgetary authority as well as the 10% overage allowed by the policy manual. There are petitioners who are working at present in Kentucky, which is the last state with an active petition drive. It is my intent to continue to pay the petitioners while this email ballot is pending. My apologies for not requesting this budget increase earlier, things moved very quickly with NY/OH/CT/NH/DC all going at the same time. I would like to request an email ballot for a motion to increase the ballot access budget to $390,000. Yours truly, Nick

July End-of-Month Financial Reports

The July End-of-Month Financial Reports are attached. (Yes, it got copied twice. I don't have a PDF editor to strip out the duplicate.) On the Revenue side, Membership Dues and Donations have already exceeded the amount the LNC budgeted for them for the entire year. We currently have about $380k in unrestricted cash. Due to the extra interest in the party this year, we have some expenses that are running over budget: Fundraising Costs, Administrative Costs, Compensation, and Member Communication. Staff has been busier than expected processing membership cards, entering donations, preparing new inquiry packages, and packing and shipping orders from LPStore.org. Tim Hagan
