Proposed amicus brief in LP Ohio ballot access case

Dear All, Pursuant to the Policy Manual, Section 2.04(2), I am advising the LNC of a potential legal action. Chris Wiest, our attorney in the KET lawsuit in Kentucky, intends to file an amicus brief in support of the Libertarian Party of Ohio in their ballot access case in the 6th Circuit. Counsel for the Ohio party has been consulted and approves. Mr. Wiest is preparing this brief pro bono on behalf of the Libertarian Party of Kentucky and would not charge us to be included as a party to the amicus. I have attached the District Court decision being appealed and the statement of issues on appeal for those who may not be familiar with the case. The filing deadline is June 29 (7 days after LP Ohio's deadline). I intend to ask for Executive Committee approval at the next available opportunity to join as an amicus in this suit. Dear All, The remaining two positions on the Ballot Access Committee will be filled with Richard Winger and Mark Axinn. They join Ed Marsh, Ken Moellman, and Bill Redpath. Mr. Moellman is Chair of the Ballot Access Committee. There were many other good candidates for the non-LNC positions on the committee, including Paul Frankel, and I trust that Mr. Moellman and the other members of the committee will reach out to those people as they do their work going forward. I received this email, and I offer it as an examplar of multiple such comments I have received, and the general experience of the LPCO in trying to reach the Johnson campaign: Caryn Ann Harlos Libertarian Party Dear Ms. Harlos: I am a supporter of Gary Johnson and would like to help organize the grassroots effort to help him. However, I do not know where to begin. I sent an email to his campaign website offering to volunteer more than a week ago but have not heard back from them. Do you know any people I can contact who are charge of a national effort to organize volunteers for Gary Johnson? I would like to get in contact with them. Request for Motion to Sponsor Outreach Booth

LNC, Colorado has requested that I make the following Motion with regards to Riot Fest, a large event happening in Colorado in September. The Motion will follow next and after that, information on the event and why National might be interested put together by Colorado's Outreach Director Marie Cochran. Please note that Colorado has already passed a Motion to fund this themselves regardless of any decision from National but during discussion it was raised that since this has more of a national scope that it would be under National's interest to get involved. Colorado does not, however, want the opportunity to be missed and since it is happening on their home soil, have stepped up. I also note that I do not have any knowledge of any insurance requirements or liabilities. ********************************************* Move that the LNC authorize spending a maximum of $800 to fund an Outreach Booth at Riot Fest to be staffed by Colorado volunteers. ******************************************** Riot Fest Proposal Riot Fest is a 3 day music festival that is held in 2 cities on separate dates in September. This event is extremely popular as people travel from across the county and internationally to attend. There are five to six stages in all. Vendor tents are placed outside, usually along the perimeter of the fenced in area by the outdoor stages. Attendance is expected to be approximately 40,000 per day, so there are a lot of people walking around from stage to stage. There is ample space to speak to the festival goers at our outside tent. We will be able to carry on conversations with potential voters. We can also expect national media coverage as MTV, Rolling Stone, Huffington Post amongst others have covered the event in the past. The target demographic will be the disenchanted Bernie Sanders supporters, Independents and anyone looking for a 3rd party option. As the event is built around, but not limited to, Punk Rock there are heavy political undertones. I have also been in contact with Seth Levy from the Gary Johnson campaign who says that this event is “right up his ally” however due to potential security concerns at that point in the campaign can not guarantee his appearance. The cost for a booth at the event was $800 last year, with a 10% discount for non-profit vendors, we can expect the same this year. The ROI for the National Party will be exposure to 120,000 voters from around the country, plus the potential for national media coverage. In the spirit of ‘putting my money where my mouth is’ I have agreed to donate the first $100 to the event. The LP has been accused of only ‘sitting around and talking about liberty in it’s purist form’ and never ‘showing up.’ Now more than ever we need to challenge that notion and get out in front of as many people as possible. updating Policy Manual cross-references to bylaws

Policy Manual Section 1.01.4 describes an auto-approve process for technical changes to the Policy Manual. Attached is a PDF showing my proposed updates to the bylaw cross-references in our policies. These changes are necessary to reflect the bylaw renumbering caused by amendments adopted at convention. Only Policy Manual Section 1.01.4 contains a cross-reference in the policy itself. The remaining changes are found in the endnotes. I took the opportunity to also use more consistent terminology in those cross-references. Sometimes it would just say "Article" X, sometimes "Bylaw" X, and sometimes "Bylaw Article" X. I've changed them to consistently use "Bylaw Article" terminology to facilitate future text searches. These technical changes are auto-approved in 30 days (July 16) unless the LNC vetoes them with a majority vote before then. I'll wait until the approval time has elapsed to create a clean version for posting to the website. We'll have a meeting on July 17th anyway, and it may need additional updates after that. Please let me know if you notice any other cross-references that I haven't yet marked for updating. -Alicia
