Ballot Status in Washington, DC

It's unfortunate that Mr. Majors did not do what he mentions he probably should have done, but hindsight is 20/20. Possible motion to rescind Policy Manual provision regarding extra mortgage payments

Mr. Chair: As you know, we have a provision in our Policy Manual that requires the LNC to pay an extra $60,000 on the LPHQ mortgage in odd-numbered years. Last week, the Secretary mentioned to me that during the EC budget work session, you hinted that you might make a motion in New Orleans to rescind that provision. Are you planning on making such a motion in New Orleans? The reason I am asking is that repealing this provision would obviously have a large financial impact on this LNC, but it would also have a large impact on the LNC that is tasked with making the balloon payment on the mortgage. Because of the large financial impact, I think it would improve our decision making process if we are able to debate this motion via e-mail over the next 10 days, as opposed to having to squeeze in debating this topic in between all the other issues that we will be dealing with in New Orleans. dial-in info for tonight's budget review

Since I haven't heard any change of plans from our Chair, I presume we will proceed with the plan to do the budget review tonight. Dan Wiener had suggested we go ahead and use our Adobe Connect trial for this meeting to give others a chance for a test drive. I'm not ready to do that just yet. Before we use it for a real meeting, we need to give everyone a chance to do a test connection in advance, tweak their browser settings if necessary, etc. I don't have time to manage that advance test for 25-ish people before our meeting. The system does have a backup option of using our own teleconference system for an audio-only connection, but I've had a busy week and have not yet had a chance to figure out how to configure that correctly. Tonight I did put a message in to my contact person to ask for a demo on that feature, so I expect to have it sorted out within the next week. For tonight, everyone should just open their copy of the draft budget on their own computer, and we'll connect with our standard teleconference system. the Green Party shows us it can be done

According to the current issue of Ballot Access News, there are 5 states in which the Green Party retained ballot status this year, but the Libertarian Party did not. Those states are DC, MA, ME, NY, and OH. That means it is definitely doable to retain ballot status in those 5 states. I sincerely hope that the LNC encourages and cajoles our affiliates who do not currently have ballot status into lobbying, putting an initiative on the ballot, or running strong statewide nominees in 2015 and 2016 such that the Libertarian Party has 35 state ballot access in December 2016. adopting the convention minutes

As I mentioned in our previous LNC meeting, we had a draft of the convention minutes, but they needed a number of corrections before we adopted them. In the time since then, I've finished that work. During the Secretary's report in our December meeting, I intend to make a motion to adopt the convention minutes. The draft I am proposing for adoption is currently posted on the website on the minutes archive page, since the new bylaw requires that it be posted there for 14 days before the LNC can vote to approve it.
